News - Dash Optimization announces success of Academic
Partnership Program
28 August 2002
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ and LONDON: Dash Optimization
today announced the success of its new Academic Partnership Program
(APP).
The Academic Partnership Program which began six months ago to encourage
academic use of Dash's Xpress-MP modeling and optimization products
has been extremely successful. To date, five of the top ten Industrial
Engineering colleges* have signed up for the Academic Partnership
Program as well as a number of other universities in the US, Canada,
Europe, and South America. Some of the participants of the Academic
Partnership Program include: Georgia Institute of Technology, Imperial
College, London, Michigan State University, Purdue University, Stanford
University, Technical University of Karlsruhe, Germany, Texas A&M
at College Station, University of Florida, and University of Wisconsin
at Madison.
Details of the APP: The objective of the Academic
Partnership Program is to make Xpress-MP widely available to academics
in research, teaching and related activities. For this reason the
program is free-of-charge to qualifying institutions and the benefits
of the program include up to ten full edition, single-user licenses,
unlimited Student Edition licenses, and rights to copy all manuals
for teaching and research purposes.
Quotations from Academic Partnership
Program Participants:
Thus far the Academic Partnership Program has received very positive
feedback from the participants.
Dr. Reha Uzsoy from Purdue University comments: "Xpress-MP
has been an excellent tool for us to pursue our work on modeling
manufacturing capacity and congestion dynamics-the combination of
easy input and fast solution time has definitely expedited our progress."
Dr. David L. Woodruff from UC Davis states "Stefan Voss and
I have just finished a book to be published by Springer that treats
well known production planning models in an optimization framework
and then extends them to take advantage of optimization technology.
The Mosel implementations included in the book demonstrate that
Mosel provides a powerful and clean representation for these models."
In speaking about Xpress-MP, Dr. Toshiyuki Sueyoshi from New Mexico
Tech claims: "I like the software. I have produced two research
papers using it. One of the two will be published in the European
Journal of Operations Research (2003). The software enhances our
analytical capability in terms of solving various LP and IP problems."
