News - KBC Licenses New Optimization Technology from
Dash Optimization
23 January 2003
KBC Advanced Technologies plc and Dash today announced
that they have entered into an agreement whereby KBC will use Dash's
new non-linear optimization technology for process simulation, process
optimization and consulting services (including their market leading
Profit Improvement Program, PIP). Both KBC and Dash are technological
leaders in their field. KBC is the largest specialist consulting
business within the Refining and Petrochemicals sector and Dash
has a large user base for its market-leading Xpress-MP optimization
software.
KBC's Petrofine® software is a comprehensive
simulation product for the Refining and Petrochemicals sector and
provides the user with the capability to do 'what-if' scenarios
and sensitivity studies. Large benefits can be gained by making
small changes to process operation. Petrofine facilitates and speeds
up this process. Mathematical optimization from Dash goes one step
further; it automates this process and provides further valuable
insight into how changes could be made to the process or feedstock
to become even more profitable. The license agreement with Dash
will enable KBC to offer Petrofine with additional optimization
as a product to their clients and enable KBC consultants to offer
this within PIP's.
Dash's non-linear optimizer is called Xpress-SLP.
Released only 15 months ago, it is already used by well-known names
within the Hydrocarbon Processing Industry, including Honeywell
and Haverly Systems. Xpress-SLP is a natural extension of Dash's
established optimization technology. Dash expects that Xpress-SLP
- like Xpress-MP - will become the de-facto standard for large-scale
optimization within the process sector.
"We have been successfully using Xpress-MP
for several years, and decided to upgrade to Xpress-SLP as we required
a state-of-the-art non-linear optimizer within Petrofine",
said Terry Fearn, Vice President for R&D. "Our customers
and consultants require accurate solutions, reliability and speed.
Xpress-SLP provides all this within one optimization component".
